Red Bordeaux Food Pairing Suggestions - Entrees

Roasted Beef - Alios 2006

When serving a roast beef for a leisurely Sunday dinner or formal dinner party, consider a red Bordeaux. The red Bordeaux, Alios 2006, also works when you serve Christmas dinner or your holiday meal in the tradition of Whoville, with a roast beef (or roast beast according to Seuss).

Alios 2006 is a Bordeaux varietal from the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux region, produced by the Château Sainte Marie vineyard. It's a blend of Merlot (80%), Cabernet Sauvignon (15%) and Petit Verdot (5%). Pair this French wine with roast beef. This Bordeaux holiday wine, which is also organic, retails for about $15.99. The Bordeaux has hints of blackberry, a fine choice of fruit to incorporate into a fruit tart for dessert, to complement the meal.

Chicken - Château de Lugagnac 2006

Go ahead and break the adage of white wine with white meat. Try this Bordeaux blend (equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) with chicken that has been grilled outside or slow roasted in the oven.

Hamburger - Château de Birot 2005

Who says you can't dress up a hamburger into a gourmet meal complete with a glass of Bordeaux? Château de Birot 2005 paris well with your cheeseburger or hamburger. This Bordeaux blends Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.

Duck, Duck, Goose- Barton & Guestier Gold Label 2006

If you're game, a dinner of roasted duck or goose won't go foul with a bottle of Barton & Guestier Gold Label 2006, a Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Add a chocolate cake for dessert and you can continue to serve this wine, which also pairs well with the chocolate.

Thai or Chinese Cuisine- Château Pey La Tour - Réserve 2006

If your dinner taste run more international, mix it up with a Bordeuax Superiur wine, the Château Pey La Tour - Réserve 2006. Bordeaux wine in general holds its own against spicy Thai or Chinese foods. Whether you're cooking at home, or picking up take up from down the street, treat yourself to this Bordeaux varietal made with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Vegetable Quiche - Château Majoureau Cuvée Hyppos 2005

For non-meat eaters, pair a red Bordeaux with a vegetable quiche. Château Majoureau Cuvée Hyppos 2005 is a Bordeaux blend of Merlot (55%) and Cabernet Franc (45%).

Pork - Chateau Recougne

Adam Halterman of Yankee Spirits in Sturbridge, Massachusetts recommends a nice bottle of Chateau Recougne for a pork entree. At $12.99 the Bordeaux is an affordable dinner wine, that's unpretentious and light.

Red Bordeaux Food Pairing Suggestions - Desserts

Chocolate Cake or Brownies - Esprit de Preuillac 2005

For a casual or a more formal dessert, you can't go wrong with anything chocolate. Consider the Esprit de Preuillac 2005 (Appellation: Medoc), from the Medoc de Graves terroir. Esprit de Preuillac 2005 is a Bordeaux varietal containing Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
