Red Dawn

Wikipedia sources say: Red Dawn is a war film by John Milius about a Soviet invasion of the United States. Red Dawn premiered on August 10, 1984. The movie stars: Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, Charlie Sheen, and Powers Boothe.

This film was the first ever to have a PG-13 rating; the Motion Picture Association of America takes credit for that then new film rating system.

This is one of the worst films ever made, but I'm writing about it just to show people how a bad film can not only be successful, but even go as far as to reach cult status levels; Red Dawn is one of the most successful films of all times.

The plot (if you can call it such) begins in a school setting. As a classroom is in session, Soviet troops land in parachutes. Let's examine this for minute. Even thousands of years ago it was difficult for powerful countries (Egypt, Assyria, Greece, etc., etc.) to be conquered by other countries. The USA was/is the most powerful country known to mankind. The USA had/has the most powerful air force and navy ever...The Soviet Union were never a match for the USA, yet in order for this movie to mentally work: the individual has to believe that the USA can be invaded by people in parachutes. From then on is every man (children actually) for themselves: C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, Charlie Sheen, etc., etc., all find themselves fighting for their lives against the Soviets, Cubans, and Nicaraguans, all of whom are on the side of the Soviet Union.

This movie was as kind stereotyping white folks from middle America as post 9-11 films have been in stereotyping people from the middle east.

The children's (C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, Charlie Sheen, etc) parents are all being brainwashed, held hostage, and/or being killed.

The end of the film shows the USA finally getting the upper hand a few years after the invasion.

The only original thing about this film was: they conjured up this invasion as oppose to the USA and Russia blowing each other up with nuclear weapons, which is what people back then thought would eventually happen.

The film can be purchased at: amazon.com, getdvdprices.com, eBay.com, hotmoviesale.com, half.com, or just about any and everywhere.
