One constant in the fashion industry is that young women are usually the focus of the fashion magazines and the world of fashion, in general. But does a woman really lose her beauty as she ages? I think not. While it is true that beauty changes as the years go by, but growing older doesn't have to mean dull and matronly.
There is a group of women in this country called The Red Hat Society. This organization was begun as a way for women of a certain age, mainly age 50 and over, to get together and have some very fashionable fun. They all proudly wear the society's chosen colors of red and purple; at least those over age 50. There is also a segment of the group under age 50 and their colors are pink and lavender, a softer version of the "true" Red Hatter.
I suppose the girls in this society would not gain the approval of Stacy London and Clinton Kelly on the TV show "What Not To Wear". Yet, there is something very beautiful and yes, fashionable about these women.
What is it that gives them that extra sparkle and extra little kick in their step? Could it be that sporting a specially designed red hat, with a pungent purple pantsuit and a flowing red scarf about the neck actually creates this inner beauty?
Have you ever found yourself in a restaurant and suddenly out of nowhere, comes this group of gray haired ladies dressed to the nines in their smart red and purple outfits? It is quite a scene! If you watch carefully, you will notice the true beauty of these older ladies. Most of them no longer have such great figures, and they don't have flawless complexions. However, they do have an abundance of well earned laugh lines. Most will have their nails done, some in red and purple, some in just red and maybe even a few in just purple. They sport necklaces and pins proclaiming themselves to be of the Red Hat persuasion. And one thing you simply can't miss is that they all seem to be talking at the same time and laughing all the time.
With fashion being what it is today, I would like to add a few fashion accessories to the list of whoever keeps such lists. Let's add, laughter, having fun, socializing, and wearing only two colors . . . in everything from hats, pants, tops, skirts, blouses, shoes, and jewelry. Just two colors - red and purple. And just for good measure, let's throw in a large purple plume for the red hat. That should make a perfect fashion statement.

Post a CommentWe have Red Hat ladies in the area; I'll soon be old enough to join but I'm not a hat person! But I hope I still have their vitality as I grow older.
I never saw them here in montreal, but I have seen them when I was visiting a small town in ontario. the colours was chosen for the creator I forget her name but she was on broadway or something like that and she was quite the dramatic.
I find these women are feisty and full of fun. I like that!
