Tips for Turning Your Fashions Retro
Shoes - Take a pair of ordinary fabric pumps and turn them retro by gluing small fabric flowers on the center front of each shoe. Another fun idea for making retro pumps is to sporadically paint polka dots throughout the top of the pumps. Use fabric paint, and use the end of a paint brush to make the polka dots. Once the dots are dry, evenly paint a coat of clear varnish over the painted fabric pumps.
Dresses - Tie a bold-colored fabric sash into a bow at the front center of a dress for a fun retro look. If you want to make a fabric sash, go to a discount fabric store to purchase a bold-colored fabric that is approximately four inches wide. The length of the fabric will depend on your waist size. Also, make sure the strip of fabric is long enough to be able to tie into a bow with tails. Lay the fabric piece on a flat surface. Measure and pin a 1/4 inch hem on both the top and bottom of the fabric sash. Iron each hem, then glue or sew hems of the fabric sash. Make a 1/4 inch hem at each end of the sash. Iron ends, then glue or sew the hems. If gluing the hems, use fabric glue.
Handbag - A handbag can be given a retro look by pinning a brooch to the center front of the bag. Another fun retro look for handbags is to pin a fabric flower to the the top, corner of the bag. If you want to make a variety of flower pins that can accessorize and give several looks to a handbag, glue various bold-colored fabric flowers to pin backs. These flower pins also look great on sweaters and jackets.
Sunglasses - Purchase a pair of inexpensive sunglasses; cat-eyed sunglasses are a great choice. Glue rhinestones to the outer edges of each side of the sunglasses.
Whether you choose to purchase a bold-colored retro fashion or decide to turn your own fashions retro, you will look red-hot for the upcoming spring and summer season.
