Charlie Manuel can defend Lidge in front of the news. But, Lidge's perfect image of last year is getting burned down everywhere. Hopefully, he can straighten it out by the end of this year.
If not the possible candidates are Ryan Madson and Scott Eyre. Frankly, I'm no fan of Lidge but, I think the Phillies are making the right decision with him leaving him as closer. That's because the team has no real solution. Madson pitches significantly better as a setupman than a closer. Eyre is great pitcher as a specialist but, he can't be a shutdown pitcher. So, yes Phillies fans you must endure Lidge for a little longer.
My suggestion would be for all of you to write him a thank you letter for him trying so hard as a closer. But, I would also love to hear your comments about Lidge and I will respond to every one of them.
