Red Hot Flames

Jody Harkavy
My family and friends say they're here for me
But I fear my back is against the wall
Why don't they see, why don't they hear
My silent screams of pain and rage?

My eyes are open to the world
But they are blind to its true beauty
Instead seeing through a hazy red hue
That blurs my vision

I strike out at those I love
Losing myself more each day
To this red hot flame that makes me tremble
I want to stop, but I don't know how

My body is torn by other's harsh words
I bleed fast and free
My tears overflow and do not stop
But all they see is a smile.

I am always smiling...

I appreciate that. I am so amazed at how many nice people I have met on AC. :)

Jody - that was excellent. I remember studying poetry like this in college!
