Red Lion Lincoln Square Opens

The Red Lion Lincoln Square is an off-shoot of the Red Lion that was once open on Lincoln Avenue, however, I've never been to that location, but I was excited to visit the new North Rockwell location. Since getting caught up in all the "pre-opening" hoopla, I couldn't wait to give it a try. On the day before Christmas Eve, we decided to go, and although we almost missed it since we didn't see any outdoor signage, we found it. It was sort of non-descript from the outside, but as soon as we walked inside, we were transported back to jolly old England. Looking at the menu, I had a hard time deciding what to get, because everything looked intriguing. The owners promise to add even more menu choices come 2011.

The hand-carved bar that graces the space is actually one that the owner brought in from an authentic English pub that her uncle owned in England, according to one of the other diners that we overheard. When it came time to order, I chose the fish and chips and my boyfriend decided on the Colonial Chicken. My fish and chips were actually the best I've ever eaten, and his chicken was delicious, too. The chicken was served with a coconut-type sauce and wheat pilaf. Both entrees were $10.95 and the portions were very ample. We will definitely go back to try some of the other tasty looking menu items.
