Finding the Perfect Lipstick
1.) There is no universal red that is perfect for everyone. Sorry, get it out of your head! Because everyone has different undertones in their skin... What may look amazing on you may look sub-par on me.
2.) Do not be afraid to try a million lipsticks. Trust me, finding that perfect shade and finish isn't easy. Unless you are super lucky you wont find that perfect shade on the first try.
3.) Go to a department store. Have those make up artists help you out. Some great counters to try are MAC, Lancome, and Clinique. After you try some on go into natural light, like outside, and see how you like it.
4.) Although there isn't a universally flattering red lipstick many people have luck with these shades of red: MAC's Russian Red ($$$), L'Oreal's British Red ($$), And NYC's Retro Red ($)
Application
1.) After finding that perfect red lipstick you may be tempted to slap it on. Don't. Without the right application your red lipstick fantasy can turn out to be a nightmare!
2.) First you have to prep your lips. Flakey red lips (or flakey lips, altogether) look and feel horrible! Unfortunately for many, it's unavoidable. Use a simple recipe of one sugar packet with a few drops of water to exfoliate your lips. Rub the mixture on your lips to take off all the dry skin.
3.) Start with a clear non-shiny balm. I, personally, use good ole chapstick.
4.) Use either a clear or matching liner. Liner keeps things in place. As simple as it seems wearing a lipliner can prevent bleeding and smearing.
5.) Remember! Precision is key. Use a lipbrush to apply your lipstick. It gives a certain precision that you cannot acheive with applying straight from the tube.
Now remember that red lips are beautiful but, you have to keep up with the. Be sure to carry your lipstick just in case it rubs off a bit. It's also a good idea to carry a pocket mirror and tissues... just in case. Finally, wear it with confidence. Confidence is part of what makes red lipstick sexy. Don't be afraid to smile!
