Growing up I always dreamed of being a veterinarian. 4 years of being on tour with Phish put a stop to that dream right quick. But my love of animals never dissipated so you can always find me watching animal shows on TV or checking books out of the library so I can hone up on what's happening in the animal world.

Living in Brooklyn is nice because I have access to one of the best zoos around, the Prospect Park Zoo. They always have great exhibits, some of the rarest animals you're likely to see anywhere and plenty of fun activities for those of all ages.

Just recently I headed over there to check out some of the animals that I've always wanted to see but really didn't even know they existed until I heard they were at the zoo. My favorite was the Red Panda, which was exhibited on the zoo's great Discovery Trail. And don't tell my dog but I kind of fell in love with the North American Porcupine. I am sure they are entirely cute until you get a quill embedded in you.

The zoo has recently implemented their winter hours which mean they are only open from 10am to 4:30pm so you better head over there while you can. If the animals are anything like me you can be sure they'll be hibernating and buried in bed all winter!
