Red Sox Vs. Yankees August 26, 2008

The Boston Red Sox were in New York to take on the Yankees for what was the last of three game series at Yankee Stadium. There is no doubt this series will be a good one. There is a life times worth of history between the two clubs and I am sure with the new stadium a season away, there will be many more to come.

Early in the first inning Pettitte walked Ortiz with Youklis on deck. Youklis has a chance to be MVP this year. He has been maturing as a hitter with Jason Bay behind him in the lineup. Jason Bay came up in a good position for the Sox to score. Youklis was on first. Ortiz on second. The mound was visited because the Yankees wanted to be careful with Bay hitting. This is Bay's first game as a Red Sox at Yankee stadium. Jay Bay popped it up and Andy Pettitte threw 23 pitches in the top half of the first inning. Wakefield fresh off the DL started off the inning with a strike to Johnny Damon. Yankees have had success against Wakefield. Johnny hits the first ball of the evening right into the right field fair for a home run. Yankees took a 1-0 lead. Next up was Derek Jeter. Youklis through a bullet to first to get the first out on Jeter. Bobby Abreu chopped a shot straight to Pedroia for the second out. A-Rod up next. He pops up but Ellsbury couldn't get it as it went into the stands. A-Rod struck out as be didn't agree with the cal and at the end of the first Yankees lead 1-0.

Top of the second Jed Lowrie is up. He has pretty much taken the shortstop position away from Julio Lugo as he is out for the time being. Lowrie got called out on strikes. Crisp up at bat. Crisp fly's out to right. Despite his fly out Crisp among other Sox players have step it up big time since Ortiz went on the DL and now with Manny Ramirez gone. Bailey hit a slow rolling base hit toward third. Kevin Cash next up. Molina got a foul ball shot right off the shoulder pad. A-Rod fumbles the hit by Cash as he hit the ball in almost in the same exact spot as Bailey. Ellsbury up and he slices the ball for base hit Bailey rounds third and the Sox tie it up at 1-1. Pedroia hits a shot straight to Alex Rodriguez as he ran to third to get out Cash for the third out. Giambi leads off the bottom of the second and falls behind quick 0-1. Giambi hits a ball straight to Wakefield as he throws for the first out. Xavier Nady up. Nady popped up and Bailey makes the play in foul territory. Matsui hits the knuckle ball through for a base hit. Robinson Cano up. Base hit for Cano as he chops it passed the stretched Lowrie. Molina next up. Molina is 2-12 lifetime against Wakefield. Base hit Matsui scores and the Yankees go back up 2-1 with Cano advancing to third. Ground ball ends the inning.

With Ortiz up to begin the third, Papi trying to bring his team back on top. Papi hits a lead off double as he is hitting 350-life time against Pettitte. Kevin Youklis up. Youklis hits a double to left field, Ortiz scores and the game is once again tied at 2-2. Youklis has not reached bases safely 35 times consecutively. Jason Bay up next. Bay hits a ground up the middle it gets passed the shortstop and Youklis rounds third and scores to put the Sox up 3-2. Jed Lowrie up with no men out, Bay at first. Lowrie hits a shot to Cano; he turns two with Crisp next up. Crisp strikes out looking. In the bottom of the third the first out comes to a pop up by Jeter, caught by Pedroia. Abreu up next. Abreu picks up a one out single. A-Rod smacks a ball right to Lowrie that turns into a double play to end the inning.

Bailey up for the Sox in the top of the 4th. Jed grounds out to Cano. Cash due up next and walks. Ellsbury up with Bailey on first, one out. Ellsbury strikes out for the second out of the inning. Pedroia up. Dustin hits a shot to A-Rod that ends the inning. Giambi up for the Yanks. Jason hit a shot deep into a right field but it is caught for one out. Nady up. Nady hit a foul to left field. Wakefield walks Nady. Matsui catches a deep shot into right field by Matsui for the second out. Cano up. Cano grounds to Pedroia for the last out of the inning. As we go to the op of the fifth.

Ortiz starts up the fifth. Papi makes a play at the wall as Papi hit it deep. The wind just didn't carry the ball far enough. One out. Youklis up. Kevin Youklis hits a ball to Derek Jeter for the first out of the fifth. Bay up next. Bay grounds up the middle for a base hit. Led Lowrie up at bat. Ground ball through the right side for a base hit and Bay moves to second base. Crisp up. Crisp is 0-2 for the game so far. Crisp hits a shot to right field, Bay comes around to score and Lowrie advances to third. The score is 4-2 Sox. Bailey up to bat with men on first and third. Crisp steals second. Molina tries to call for interference as he gets denied by the umpire. With a shot to third A-rod throws to first the runner is safe as Lowrie and Crisp come home. Giambi gets caught not looking and the Sox go up 6-2. Pettitte gets taken out and Bruney steps in. A-rod grabs the next hit as the runner is tagged to end the top half. The Yankees trail by 4 with Molina up. Molina pops up to deep right center and Crisp is there to catch it. Damon up rips one foul for strike one. Damon sneaks a shot inside the pole for a home run. His second of the game it is now 6-3 Boston. Jeter up. Jeter line dries one to left field for a base hit. Up comes Abreu. Bay can't get under the ball as Abreu puts the runner in scoring position. A-rod is at the plate as the tie run. A-Rod pops it up to center Crisp with the catch as the Yankee fans boo at the at bat. Giambi first pitch rips one foul. Full count for Giambi with 2 men on base. High fly to right field as Crisp ends the inning. The Yankees do not get the job done.

In the Sixth, Ellsbury leads off. Ellsbury flies out to the former Red- Sox Damon. Next up is Pedroia. Pedroia with a full count walks and brings up Ortiz. Pedroia ran to steal second pointlessly as Ortiz walks and brings up Youklis. Youklis gets walked and the bases are loaded with one out for Jason Bay. Pedroia tags the base as Bay fly's out and the Sox score 7-3, 2 out. Lowrie batting. Lowrie pops it up and ends the top half. Lopez gives Wakefield the rest of the night off and faces Nady. Nady knocks one to Crisp for one away. Shattered bat shot to Pedroia gets the second out of the inning. A bat fly's into the crowd and the inning is over. 7-3 Sox.

Robertson comes in to shake things up for the Yanks. Base hit for Crisp off the glove off of Cano couldn't grab it. Lowrie strikes out and Cash is up. Cash gets caught and strikes out. Ellsbury up at bat. Crisp attempts to steal second and gets called out to end the half. Delcarmen comes into to pitch for the Sox and Cora takes over at shortstop. Pudge Rodriguez pinch hits for the Yanks. Pudge strikes out and Jeter is up. Jeter gets on first base with Damon on second. Full count to Abreu. Abreu walks with A-Rod at bat. Lopez comes out as Terry Francona goes to the bullpen. Justin Masterson comes in to pitch to A-Rod. A-rod hits a double play as the bases remain loaded. Eight inning coming up.

Ellsbury pops up as Cano makes the catch for out one in the eigth. A-rod hears boos from the crowd as he scoops up the grounder to make out number 2. Ortiz up. A broken bat for Papi as he sets in for a double. The Yankees intentionally walk Youklis. Bay is up with 2 outs runners on first and second. A-Rod fumbles the ball and Bay is safe at first. The boos continue for A-Rod. Bases are loaded for Lowrie. A shot gets hit right to Cano to end the top of the inning. 7-3 Red Sox lead, Materson tries to knock the Yankees out 1,2, 3. Giambi takes a strike its 3-1. Ball is hit to Pedroia, he fumbles it and Giambi is safe at first. Nady up. Base hit for Nady, Giambi moves to second. Okajima comes in to finish off the 8th. Matsui up and strikes out. Cano comes up with 2 on and 1 out. Okajima has a full count against Matsui. Popped up and Pedroia makes the play for the second out. Okajima is done for the night as the closer for the Sox Jonathan Papelbon comes in. Pudge Rodriguez is up for the Yankees. Pudge knocks a hit to Papelbon and the Sox go to the ninth with a 7-3 lead.

Crisp leads off the ninth inning with a base hit. Third hit for Crisp in the night. Alex Cora up for his first at bat for the night. Abreu backs up and catches the fly ball for one out. Kevin Cash comes up to the plate. Cash hits hit number 14 for a base hit. Ellsbury up. Line drive to A-Rod to end the inning. The Yankees try to rally in the bottom of the ninth. Damon leads off with two homers for the night. one out, base hit as Lowrie bobbles the hit. ball gets hit to second but the throw is not in time so A-Rod gets up to a crowd of boos from his own fans. A-Rod strikes out as the Yankees lose 7-3 and the Boos pour in. Good Night Yankees!
