Ask Richard Pennicuik about the indigenous birds that daily traverse 'his endangered tree' and he can tell you what time of day certain species visit and where they go to after visiting 'his tree'. And he can also tell you where they nest before arriving at his tree.
Richard appears to have learnt much from his 108 day stay in that tree.
His yellow box indigenous gum tree is part of a quickly disappearing network of indigenous gum trees that are necessary for the survival of many endangered birds.

Some people 'just don't seem to get it'.
Indigenous birds need indigenous trees. I'm sure a non-native jacaranda is far less tasty to these birds. Just as Australia's Indigenous people are now plagued by not eating the foods their bodies and metabolisms became accustomed to for many thousands of years before Captain Cook arrived at Botany Bay I'm sure the health of these indigenous birds is likewise affected.
The way I see it 'the invasion' that has plagued Australia's Indigenous population of people, along with its' flora and fauna continues to march along.
And replacing indigenous trees with non indigenous trees brings along many new perils.
Diseases and pests can flourish when the indigenous balance in nature is lost or altered severely. It's all part of a very dangerous global mentality that is fast ruining the planet.
As I recall Vice-President Biden saying to President Obama recently, "it's a big F***ing deal".

The campaign to save Richard's tree seems to be in a late stage now.
Gosnells City Council may indeed arrive at the tree to chop it down within the next eight hours.
I wish I had somehow gotten involved earlier. I feel I could have done more as I have an extensive network of political contacts and my years as an academic have given me a few clues about 'how to get around'.
This article will be emailed to Gosnells City Councilors. I wonder if anyone there might read it before sending out the chainsaws to Hume Road, Thornlie.
I've also emailed people involved in Native Title issues, but it seems unlikely I can muster any support being that they have all most likely gone to bed now and the tree may well be already a great big, huge pile of mulch by the time they wake up.

Keep posted.

Great work... except the quote is not from President Obama, but from Vice-President Biden. But, gee, as a parochial US-er, I cannot name any government figure in Australia.
