Who doesn't enjoy an incredible fireworks display on July 4th? There are many fireworks displays in almost every major city in the United States.

If you live in Memphis, TN, there are plenty of choices in the city as well as the surrounding areas. Most of these events are family friendly and free.

However, if you are looking for the biggest fireworks display in Memphis, TN, then the Red, White, and Blues Star Spangled Celebration at Tom Lee Park is the place to be.

The Red, White, and Blues Star Spangled Celebration will be held on June 30, 2007 from 2:00pm - 10:15pm. An incredible fireworks extravaganza is scheduled to begin at 9:50pm. This event is free, however many of the "extras" such as concessions, family area, etc will require money.

The Red, White, and Blues Star Spangled Celebration has actually been two separate events in years past. However, this year the Beale Street Merchants Association has combined with some of the local radio stations as well as other organizations in the metropolitan area to bring a huge combined event.

There will be a special expanded family zone. This area will host events that are child friendly and fun. So, bring your kids and have a great time with the whole family.

There will be moon bounces with wristbands available for $10.00. This wristband will allow your child unlimited access to the moon bounces. Proceeds from the moon bounces will benefit Youth Villages of Memphis.

The family zone will also have an area with games and exhibitions. These games will be sponsored by Uphoff Gymnastics. Uphoff Gymnastics also will be selling Glo-Lites with proceeds going to their inner city school programs.

There will also be a petting zoo, pony rides, and rock climbing wall. These will be an additional charge.

Coolers are allowed at this event. However, no glass will be allowed in the park. Budweiser products will be sold on the grounds, but no outside alcohol will be allowed. There will be concession stands close to the family area and the main stage. So, make sure you bring some cash for these things.

Speaking of the main stage, there is going to be some great music at the Red, White, and Blues Star Spangled Celebration. There are Christian as well as mainstream artists scheduled to appear. Some of the scheduled acts include Christian rock band, Skillet; Chris Rice; Kimberley Locke; Ingram Hill; Gin Blossoms; and Average White Band.

Lawn chairs and blankets are allowed. However, canopies and umbrellas will not be allowed after the singing acts begin on the main stage at 2:00pm.

When going to an outdoors event such as this, don't forget to bring sunscreen, bug spray, and comfortable shoes. The event organizers are also recommending that you bring a flashlight to help you find your way back to your car.

Speaking of cars, don't forget to bring money for parking. Many parking lots in the downtown area charge a flat fee when there are special events going on. Theses fees can range from $10.00-$20.00. Also, be prepared to walk a ways to get to the event from where your vehicle is parked.

With a little planning, and a little money, the Red, White, and Blues Star Spangled Celebration will be a fun-filled event for the entire family.

Great advice. They always do a great job on the fireworks!

One year, we went to harbor town and watched from the park. That was a lot of fun and really was free :)
