Red, White and Bruised: What Will it Take to Get Our Country Back Under Control?

Private Pen
Unless you live under a rock it isn't hard to realize that America is in trouble. In just two months in office President Obama has succeeded in turning Americans against him. The prestigious Notre Dame University is now circulating a petition just to keep the President away from their graduation ceremonies. All across America people are holding mini-revolts and 'tea parties'.

It's frightening people. I have find myself intrigued with the thoughts and views of my fellow friends, family and even strangers. What do you think we can do to win America back? Electing Obama to the White House was what many Americans thought we needed. Change.. that's what he was preaching along the campaign trail. Change you can believe in. Well folks, I don't know about you but this is the kind of change that has me waking up to my own screams at night. Obama has managed to start tearing down what was left of the American walls.

We are to the point where we cannot trust our corrupt government. They are finally being exposed for what they are: liars, thieves. They continue to take advantage of us. I would like to know what other 'everyday' people think about our current economic situation. If you could ask for anything what would you ask for? What would you like to see be done (even if it isn't immediately realistic)?

It is time to start thinking about what it is going to take on OUR LEVEL to get the ball rolling back in the right direction. It is time to start really considering how much power we actually have in this country. I continue to tell people that we do not have FREEDOM, we have the ILLUSION of freedom. The sooner we all come to terms to that the sooner we can begin to clear our heads and start taking action against the government that will sooner corrupt us than stand with us.

In 100 words or less, comment back on this article and let me know what changes you would immediately call for if you were the one with the power to call the shots.

My comments are directed to Patricia's earlier post. Patricia, there is plenty of blame to go around. Congress (R & D) set us up for the fall back in the 90's when they forced banks to accept high risk loans. Then Congress did nothing even after being warned repeatedly. That is poor representation at best. Whether those AIG people deserved the bonuses or not the government does not have the right to step into business affairs and make the decision itself - that's called tyranny. It sets a dangerous precedent and it won't be long before government goons decide that it's your turn. Patricia, congress works for you and me, but our servants have become our masters. Shame on you for your envy of people better off than you. There's a lot of people not as well off as you - are they entitled to your $90,000 401K? Would it be right if thery hated you for what you have earned for yourself? Well, in obama-land where everything is fair, everyone will have the same thing (and that will be

We can start by removing privileges that put representatives above us, not with us.

Require all laws that apply to the rest of the country to equally apply to congress.

Repeal congress' right to vote for their own raises.

Balance the federal budget. If you don't you're committing national suicide.

Make congress pay into the social security system.

Long term power corrupts. Limit congress from serving more than 2 terms.

Throw out of office every congressman and woman who didn't bother reading the biggest spending bill in history before they voted for it.

Increase benefits for the men and women of the armed forces. They have never failed you.

Start with no war unless you intend to win it.

Make English the official language of America.

Thanks for the opportunity to vent -

It is my personal opinion that Obama and Congress should relinquish their own paychecks for us and work for free while we clean this mess up instead of rolling around in their own dough while families lose their homes. Half of 'them' don't even pay their taxes.. aka Tim Geithner.

Are you kidding me? Just why is America in the state that it's in? Eight years of Bush! Finally the corruption is being exposed? Hello...Obama is coming into a mess, he didn't create it!
I read where many at Notre Dame are in support of PRESIDENT Obama speaking at graduation. He's an articulate, intelligent black man, and president of this country. That's what the real problem is, isn't it?

I believe we should take a look at America from the bottom up. Take care of others in our own areas and get back the basics of American life.
