Tom and I made a command decision to take it easy in DC and try to get some work done. We were both massively behind on videos and recaps and there wasn't much in particular planned for DC. As such this could be the shortest entry of the trip.
The entire first day in the city was spent in transit and working on videos. We were staying with a two friends of mine from college, one of whom works here (I am jealous of him), and the other of whom is a grad student at Georgetown. After meeting up with them and having a few beers, we spent the rest of the night writing and editing.
The next morning we got up and did some laundry. Exciting stuff, laundry. Then we spent a good hour helping my friend try to jump her car which ended in a AAA call and a new battery. The three of us tried Ethiopian food at a place called Dukem on U St. before my friend dropped Tom and I off near the White House.
With limited time and not a ton of feasible ideas to entertain you all with (break into the Oval Office? Ambush Congressmen? The best we came up with was to interview the war protester who has been camping out near the White House for quite a while, but we somehow couldn't find him) we ended up just taking a few photos and calling it good enough. Our time crunch was because Tom's aunt, a former FBI profiler, was taking us out to dinner at 5:30. I felt like she was staring into my soul the entire time, but she did not try to warn Tom I have homicidal tendencies before she left, so I guess it was alright.
His aunt dropped us off at the meet-up point, Capital City Brewing. There we hung out with TheColonel and Firefly5683 until it was time to head off for another exciting night of sleeping in the airport! We have decided that Dulles is the worst airport we have had to spend time in on our trip so far. They play soul destroying muzak and have the worst seats for sleeping. After some shitty sleep it was onwards to Denver to begin our journey into the heart of darkness, Kansas.
Random Thoughts:
- When did disembarking get replaced by deplaning? Why?
- Tom and I are showing symptoms of becoming an old Jewish married couple. Kill me now.
- You have to show proof of traveling abroad to purchase duty free liquor. Foiled again.
