11:00am - Depart Denver

This stop was going to be busy. This was perhaps the first stop where we had an entire itinerary before we landed, and we pretty much had to stick to it in order to get everything done. Saydrah swooped in and extricated us from the airport, pointing out the devil bronco on our way out, and we headed off for a tour of one of our sponsor's headquarters, Associated Content. We ordered some delightful sounding BLTA sandwiches to pick up on the way (bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado if you were wondering) and then promptly ran out of gas. Our score so far: dead batteries - 1; out of gas - 1. Oh yes, there will be more. By the time we got out BTLAs they were cold but still damned delicious. We hung out in the Associated Content offices for the afternoon until it was time for the Denver meet-up.

The meet-up was held at the Cruise Room, a cool nautical themed art deco bar known for its cocktails. So of course we all drank beer (yeah, I don't know what I was thinking). Everything was delicious, the biggest disappointment being that the free jukebox was out of order, but eventually we moved on because it was cost prohibitive to continue drinking there. We headed over to a less swanky bar to grab a few more beers.

One of the members of are party was a little more inebriated than the rest of us by this point and made the night quite entertaining. Every member of the party was repeatedly groped, I helped insert a "We Are The MusicMakers" button into a bellybutton piercing, and Tom and I were encouraged to take tasteful nude photos in a bathroom stall. I also know more about NakedTonyDanza then I ever really wanted.

But all this eventually had to end so that we could begin the trek to the middle of Kansas. We left Denver already a bit behind schedule, Saydrah at the wheel, Tom and I passed out. So that Saydrah would not kill herself, LtPl4y3r met up with us a few hours down the road and took over driving responsibilities. We made it to the Wichita State campus by mid-morning tired, sore, and ready to bug P-Dub.

Witness the video.

We wandered around the campus with P-Dub for a while, posed with a bronze caterpillar, and did not go to see LtPl4y3r's wife because she managed to destroy a piece of expensive lab equipment while we were walking over to see her. Then, on the the Kansas State Fair.

It was a magical place! They had pig races, backhoe mini-golf, patriotic quilts, a Where's the Beef? Cook-off, and so much more. We gorged ourselves on fried everything while watching hog judging. Saydrah loved the petting zoo, while Tom liked the birthing tent (the sick fuck). I decided it would be fun to put on an ill-fitting lion costume, ride a mechanical bull, and then hand out the Ubuntu disks LinuxFreeOrDie burned for me to hand out along our travels. The last part never happened because I was sick of the lion suit after riding the bull. Here is a video.

We had to cut our visit short (we couldn't even stay to see Heart perform that night at the fair) to make it back to Denver to grab a few hours sleep before our flight out. Saydrah sprang for a hotel for Tom and me for the all-to-short night, and then it was off to the airport. Saydrah brought gifts with her when she came to pick us up: her mom made us pie and cookies, and Workroom had sent a care package for us. Unfortunately, it addition to the assorted bacon candies and a Captain Danger Monkey, it contained bacon, beans, maple syrup, and pancake mix. We were supposed to have received it a day before and cooked breakfast for Saydrah and ourselves, but now we were on our way to the airport with no time to indulge. Oh well, on to Raleigh-Durham and Karmanaut! Maybe we can cook the bacon there...
