Redesign Home, Wardrobe With Color

Take a Spin on the Color Wheel

Mary Carter

Color is a beautiful thing, both in our homes and our wardrobes. If you're a big fan of monochromatic palettes or basic black, this may be a scary thought for you but I invite you to read on. Color doesn't have to be bold or overwhelming to create impact and interest.

When people walk into your house, do the furniture, walls and floors all blend into one big blob? Add splashes of color with vibrant window treatments, stained glass lampshades and colorful area rugs. And you don't need to think in terms of bright color either--how about dark wooden boxes, wrought iron candlesticks, rich leather bound books in deep burgundy or hunter green?

Want to give your room drama but you think four walls of bright color sounds too intense? Try just one wall. One wall of color, either rich or subtle, can add interest and open up a room without overwhelming the color-shy. Remember, paint is the least expensive way to make the biggest impact in your home!

And if you have as much black in your wardrobe as I do, shoot some color into your personal style with colorful jewelry, luxurious silk scarves with bright patterns or boldly hued shoes and belts.

Both the eye and the soul crave variations in the landscape of our lives. Make it an eye-catching view!
