Reduce Flatulence

Excessive gas is frustrating, embarrassing, and can be quite uncomfortable, especially if it is causes bloating. Flatulence can be caused by taking antibiotics because the antibiotics kill bacteria throughout the body. The problem is that some bacteria is good for the body, it helps the digestive system work effectively but when antibiotics destroy all bacteria in the body, bad bacteria develops producing toxins that form and produce gas, bloating, and even diarrhea. To help restore the body's natural bacteria balance there are a number of things you can do to help reduce flatulence.

Since antibiotics destroy good bacteria taking probiotics will work to restore the good bacteria. Take a supplement that contains 2 to 3 billion units of acidophilus or bifidum, which help to develop the good bacteria. Make sure the supplement is refrigerated at all times to prevent the necessary ingredients from being destroyed. Take the probiotics at least two weeks during and after you are on antibiotic therapy. Some people don't produce enough digestive enzymes, which work to break down food so it can be absorbed in the intestines. Taking a digestive enzyme, such as Bromelain, after each meal will help produce the needed enzymes and reduce flatulence.

Another way to reduce flatulence is to cut down on foods that can produce gas and bloating. Foods like dairy products, beans, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumbers, certain types of grains like wheat, yeast, and sweets can produce gas. Ginger is an excellent herb that will help to reduce and even prevent flatulence. Ginger stimulates the digestive system and relaxes the muscles in the digestive tract so food will not get backed up or blocked in the intestines. Look for a ginger product that has 1 percent gingerols. Take two capsules with each meal.

Taking a chlorophyll supplement will help to reduce flatulence by cleaning food in the digestive tract. Chlorophyll is completely safe and you can take it anytime you feel bloated or are experiencing flatulence. Fennel seeds work to reduce flatulence because the oils in the herb help the digestive process. Take the fennel seeds by chewing 5 or 10 seeds a day and then swallowing them. If you feel a flatulence attack coming on before an important meeting or when you are heading toward a social activity, try taking 200 to 500 mgs of activated charcoal to get some immediate relief from flatulence. Activated charcoal works to flush out gas producing toxins from the body quietly. Take the supplement at least 30 minutes before you arrive for any social situation.
