Reducing Your College Cost in Four Easy Ways

Paying for college is one of the biggest expenses you are likely to face, finding ways to cut that expense is the smartest thing you can do. It doesn't matter if you're a recent high school graduate or a current college student there's something for everyone.

1) FAFSA- the five most important words known to college students. This is one of the most crucial things you need to do every year. What most people seem to forget is that the earlier you apply the better. The reason for this is because grants like the SEOG, work study and the Perkins loans are a limited fund given to each school that can run out soon (and it is first come, first serve basis for these). So you should apply no later than March. Remember this is a free application.

2) Talk to your Financial Aid Advisor- They can provide you with help on applying, finding school scholarships and grants you are eligible for. Also check if the financial office has a Facebook page, they update with advice, available scholarships and grants from the school and outer sources. Sometimes there are even freebies and you can't go wrong with that.

3) Zinch.com- This website offers all sorts of things for students. Scholarships that don't require boring essays, but interesting ways such as blogs, photos, videos and 1-3 liners. There are various scholarships available, including ones from the schools. The best part of the website is the Mooch aspect; you don't have to win a scholarship to win money. If one of your friends that you recruited to the website wins, so do you.

4) Know what you wanna do- Knowing your major can really help zone in on those available scholarships geared toward your major. If you have any type of experience in the field, community service or just plain good grades can help you eligible and possibly win.
