Reducing the Expense of Starting a Virtual World Presence

Carrie Lowe
While getting into a virtual world for an individual can be really cheap to do, it is not quite the case for a business that is looking to create a virtual presence entirely from scratch. Trying to figure out ways to reduce the costs associated with the start up is very important since it can often mean the difference between this form of advertising being affordable or being far out of your reach. It is important to realize that businesses large and small are all finding homes in the virtual world and you do not have to own a multi-million dollar corporation in order to get started.

You should first realize that your biggest upfront expenses will be buildings and land. Looking for ways to trim these costs down as low as possible will help you to get your business into the virtual world for much less than it would otherwise cost. In order to really get started you need to focus first on saving as much money as possible on the land since this can often be the biggest expense that you will encounter and since it is a reoccurring expense one of the most commonly used for saving money.

All land in virtual world provides square meters of land, as well as prims that are available to be used. The square meters of land represents the amount of virtual space that you have to use, while the prims allowance represents how much "stuff" you can place in that space. All virtually created objects that are not textures require prims to be used. If you need only a small space then you will not need many square meters of land, nor many prims and will be able to pick up land quite cheap. However, if you are looking for a much larger slice of the virtual world you have a great opportunity to save substantial amounts.

Look around for sales of land from individuals; many times, they will be looking to sell the land cheap just so they can move on. The same principal applies in real life as well and can be used to your advantage. Land that would be purchased directly from the virtual world company can often be purchased for 50% or more off from an individual. This can be a huge savings especially if you are looking to purchase an entire island, which can run as much as $1,000 upfront.

The building itself will also be a huge expense. Most well designed and built pre fabricated buildings are quite pricy, but also it is important to remember that they are significantly cheaper than a custom build. However, you can still have a custom build at a good price if you shop around, or even if you ask around to your employees and find that one is already a skilled builder. If you do decide to purchase a pre fabricated building, just be sure that it offers modify permissions as well as copy so that you can change it to suit your exact design ideas, decorating concepts and needs.

These simply tips will help you to save money while still building the virtual presence that you want for your business. All at a price that is easy for any business to handle, and without forcing you to run a massive sale to start finding some cash to fund the project.
