Reed Langden is Concerned About Global Warming

Reed Langdon in his article "A Life Threatening Environment," explains how the environment is a very broad subject and only in the past year has it got his attention. Specifically he is talking about global warming and its impact on the way we live. It appears he became concerned when Japanese scientists announced facts about how the average global temperature has increased.

Reed apparently travels around the globe and has been impressed by the Japanese automakers and how they are taking initiatives to reduce auto emissions. He also explains that while he was watching the Discovery channel, he saw that the Cook Islands have been experiencing tidal flooding that the villagers there have never experienced before. This caught his attention because he has lived in the tropics and he has been suffering a drought for the past four years. But this year there is way to much water that it is becoming dangerous.

Global warming is drastically changing our environment and how we live. Reed also experienced the tsunami in Thailand and has traveled to Raylong. Raylong is very low to sea level with factories on one side of the area and ocean on the other. He went to see what was reported on the Thai news, which was telephone polls and streets that were in the ocean and this was not just a rare high tide. The local people are scared and are taking action by moving homes and businesses to higher ground. To understand the magnitude of this situation eleven thousand Rai, which is approximately five thousand acres are now completely under water.

Reed thinks this should be a wakeup call to all of us. He goes on to explain that he does not have the answers and talks about what Bangkok is doing to slow global warming. Bangkok is switching from oil to natural gas on taxis and city buses. But his is not enough Reed is still concerned that someday the entire city of twelve million people will be completely underwater. Reed makes a desperate plea that our environment is the responsibility for everyone and each of us need to take a second look and do our part to reduce our impact on global warming. Reed is reducing the use of his vehicle by fifty percent and is making use of public transportation, this also allows him more time to read the newspaper and learn more about ways to reduce global warming.
