into the edge of blackest night.
The long hot days give way to wings
of gossamer mist that Fall nights bring.
Leaves like colored jewels are cast upon the ground,
coating the land and all around,
with the promise of a time to come,
when life as we know it will soon be done.
A time to reflect on what we did and what does lie ahead,
when nature sleeps under blankets white
and hides deep within her bed.
We sit cozy and snug in houses warm,
that make us feel all safe from harm
and wonder what the dark will bring
while snow begins to drift
and all the birds no longer sing.
Drifting on dreams of what awaits
when the Earth begins to turn.
Fall carries us into a time to rest
to wait for Springs return.

Lovely.
I love Fall and the preparation for nesting. As a plant lover, I'd like to be able to go directly from Fall to Spring and Summer though.
Lovely! I love autumn.

Just got a letter from a long time friend and she said the same thing she always says as September rolls around, something like 'Thank God! It's Fall', it is her fav time of the year. Me? I am already getting depressed thinking of long, dark days beginning my countdown till spring. Actually I always loved the riotous colors of fall on the east coast, but summer's were so short I hated the thought of putting away the skimmpy shorts and tank tops.
Lovely poem... as always :-)

Lovely poem! I love autumn, though I hate the coldness that comes with winter. I wish it would just stay spring, summer and autumn all year long!
Nice poem. I think the change of seasons bring some of the best artistic inspiration.
Beautiful poem. It really captures the essence of fall.
