Reflexology: An Introduction

Cheryl Dennett
With more and more natural healing practices gaining popularity, reflexology has become more familiar, as well. Many people have no idea what it really is, however. So, here is an introduction to the practice of reflexology.

Reflexology is the study of how one part of the body reflects another. It can be used as an analysis tool for health issues and personality types. But, mostly, it is a holistic, natural therapy. It is used to manage health and maintain good health, as well. The word reflexology can be broken down into two parts. The first part, "reflex", means one part reflecting another part of the body, in this context. The second part, "ology", means the study of. Together this word means the study of how one part of the body reflects another.

The most common way of explaining reflexology is that it maps out the reflexes on the feet and hands to all the organs of the body. There are certain places on the feet and hands that have an energy connection to certain parts of the human body. When pressure is applied to these places on the feet and hands, it is possible to affect specific body parts.

Reflexology shares some similarities with acupressure and massage. However, they are separate therapies and reflexology goes much deeper than the other two. Many times, results from a reflexology session will occur within a few hours. The first time a person experiences this, it can be an amazing realization that something this simple can actually help them feel better.

Reflexology is one of many natural therapies. It is a safe and effective process that will help you become involved in your own health. It is used to promote relaxation and healing for not just your body, but your mind and spirit, as well. It is also used to find health problems. A person who practices reflexology may be able to find health problems before you even know they exist. This therapy can be used in conjunction with natural herbal therapies to help get you healthy and keep you there.

Experiencing a reflexology session can be very rewarding. It can help you relax and bring to light some issues you may need to address. Hopefully, after reading this, you will be open to, and maybe even schedule, a reflexology session. You may even find you enjoy it so much you will make it a regular part of your healthy lifestyle.
