Reflexology can be done on one's self to relieve joint and muscle pain. I started doing hand reflexology on myself, when I felt that things were not right within my own body. Sometimes I do not know exactly what zone I am working, I try to concentrate more on the painful areas, because as I massage those painful points I know that I am healing my body, and preventing further damage. I prefer it to foot reflexology, because I find working with my hands is easier for me to massage those hard to get to spots. I still get severe shoulder and intense back pain from a bad car accident. I keep a chart of a color coded hand reflexology diagram.
The conventional way of suppressing muscle or joint pain is done by taking harmful and or addictive pain medications, that in the end cause more health problems.
If shoulder, neck, and/ or back pain get too unbearable, I find the zones on my chart and begin working on those spots labeled on the chart that direct me to which area works those particular muscle pains or spasms. I simply take the thumb of the opposite hand press down on the painful spot and begin to gently massage the area, in a mini circular motion.
If you should decide to do reflexology on yourself, be sure to get a book as a guide, and even internet information can be helpful. You want to learn the proper method and not hurt yourself. The pain may be so painful that you have to work on the area for a week or so, take a break for a week and then start the cycle again. The healing process in some problem areas will not clear up right away.
Reflexology massages do release toxins in the body, in order to flush them out, you must drink plenty of water to flush them out so that you don't get sick or dizzy from the massages.
