Refresh Your Skin with a Cool Cucumber Cold Cream

Many of us may remember growing up watching our mothers and grandmothers using cold cream. They used it to remove make-up, soften dry skin, and as an anti-aging treat for their faces. We may also remember how beautiful their skin always looked as well.

The good news is that cold cream and its benefits don't have to remain a thing of the past. With a few simple ingredients and just a few minutes of our time, it's easy to whip up an all natural cold cream that will leave our skin cleansed, freshened and renewed.

One of the most deliciously soothing, all natural cold creams is made with cucumbers as its main ingredient. Cucumbers are known for being mildly astringent as well as for having curative properties that reduce redness and inflammation and leave skin feeling cool and clean. Adding lanolin and a bit of almond oil to the mix help to boost the moisturizing and soothing properties of the cold cream as well as aid the skin in absorbing water.

All you need to make this cucumber cold cream is two small cucumbers which you will peel and cut in halves, one cup of lanolin, a half cup of almond oil and a half cup of water. Place the half cup of water in a saucepan and bring to a boil, during this time you will want to add the cucumbers to your blender or food processor and blend thoroughly until they reach a soup-like consistency.

You will then want to slowly add in the boiling water and stir. After the cucumber paste and water have been mixed, set them aside to cool off and use the saucepan to melt down the lanolin as it generally comes in a waxy form from the store. You will want to melt the lanolin on a low heat and stir it continuously. Once the lanolin has melted down, add the almond oil and stir.

When your lanolin and almond oil have been mixed, you may use a strainer to remove the pulp from the cucumber so that you are left with just the juice. Slowly add the cucumber juice to the lanolin and almond oil and stir until thoroughly mixed together. Once mixed, remove the saucepan from the stovetop and store your freshly made cucumber cold cream in a glass container, preferably in the refrigerator. Use it as often as you like, although it is a good idea to make a new batch every week in order to maintain the cold cream's freshness and effectiveness.

This refreshing and healing cucumber cold cream is completely natural, easy to make, and wonderful for all skin types. You can use it to remove stubborn make-up, as a facial mask before your shower, or simply as a treat for overtired skin. Our mothers and grandmothers knew the benefits of a simple cold cream for youthful, healthy skin and we can follow in their footsteps with this wonderful version made straight from nature's bounty.
