If you are refurbishing your kitchen cabinets and enjoy an Americana décor style, then these simple ideas for design schemes will wonderfully refurbish a set of worn or out of date existing cabinets.

Americana Design Schemes for Refurbishing Kitchen Cabinets #1: Stars

It is extremely simple to create an Americana Stars design scheme to refurbish your kitchen cabinets. Consider repainting the base of your cabinets with a rich, red paint. (Such as Sherwin Williams Super Paint Interior Latex Paint in Heart Throb). Cut a dry kitchen sponge into a star shape, and transfer the image to the center of a cabinet door in white paint. Add dark blue details with an artist's paintbrush, either as a border around the white star shape or another pattern you desire.

Americana Design Schemes for Refurbishing Kitchen Cabinets #2: Stripes

An Americana Stripes design scheme is another simple project for refurbishing kitchen cabinets. Paint the base of your kitchen cabinets with a flat white paint. With an artist's paintbrush, paint a one quarter inch wide vertical red stripe down the cabinet door front. Repeat this process three inches to the side of the red stripe, with a deep blue hue. (Such as Sherwin Williams Super Paint Interior Latex Paint in Naval.) Keep the stripe continuous from floor to ceiling.

Americana Design Schemes for Refurbishing Kitchen Cabinets #3: Circle of Stars

One of the more classic Americana design styles for refurbishing kitchen cabinets is the "Circle of Stars". Paint the base of the cabinet plus any door or drawer fronts a deep red or dark blue hue. Create a stencil of several one inch sized stars in a circle by using a craft knife and a piece of cardboard. Spray paint the star design in a bright white color in the center of each cabinet front.

TIP: The most important thing to remember when using paint as a way to refurbish kitchen cabinets is the preparation step. Make sure the cabinets are free of any existing paints or stains. (A bit of paint stripper, available at local home improvement stores, can take care of this.) Any cracks or holes need to be filled with wood filler. Gently sand the wood prior to priming, and wipe away any excess dust with a tack cloth. Also, remember the higher quality primer you use the longer the finished paint look will last. Keeping these tips in mind will help your Americana design project work that much better.
