While there is only one Reege, the guessing game has begun with names such as Mark Consuelos, Anderson Cooper, Neil Patrick Harris and even Ryan Seacrest making the rounds as possible replacements for him.
But let's focus on the man for a minute. Although his long-running morning talk show has been a huge part of his career, Philbin is a showbiz veteran- one of the last of the old school entertainers.
Here's a look back at 10 classic Regis Philbin moments.
Joey Bishop Show (1967-69). Regis made like Joey Bishop's announcer sidekick on this old talk show - perhaps paving the way for his own long-running talks show stint.
"Regis Philbin's Lifestyles" (1985, 1987). Regis liked to combine interviewing with working out on his old "Regis Philbin's Lifestyles" show, as shown in his 1985 interview with game show host Gene Rayburn while on an exercise bike. In 1987 he worked out with Brooke Shields.
Regis' Commercial successes. Back in the 1980s, Regis went bananas for Harvest Crisps Crackers. In the 60s he joined Joey Bishop for a commercial for Hai-Karate
"Who Wants to be a Millionaire." (1999-2002). Regis' primetime quiz show may have been responsible for making TV game shows a family affair once again.
Handsome Hal- "Hope and Faith" (2003-2006). Reege as a sleezy used car salesman? That was his deal when he guest starred on pal Kelly Ripa's sitcom, "Hope and Faith" in a recurring role as Handsome Hal Halverson.
Regis the Jokester (2004). Always a prankster, in 2004 a giddy Reege planted a surprise on guest co-host Alicia Keys.
New Year's Rockin' Eve (2005). After longtime "New Year's Rockin' Eve" host Dick Clark suffered a stroke, Regis stepped in as his replacement that year, helping us to ring in New Year 2005.
"Live With Regis and Kelly"- Halloween episodes (2001-2010). Regis is known for his crazy Halloween costumes-he has dressed up like everyone from Kid Rock to Susan Boyle. His annual Halloween dress-up with Kelly Ripa is one of the most talked-about shows of the season.
Regis as a Claymation character- A Claymation Regis sang "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" while clay versions of Donald Trump, Kelly Ripa and "Live" producer Michael Gelman chimed in.
Regis' Walk On- (2009). Regis shocked New York's WABC Channel 7 news anchors when he walked in on a live newscast. Perfect timing- he got to wish viewers a nice day as the noon newscast signed off.
Duet with Jimmy Fallon- (2010). In 2010, Regis and talk show host Jimmy Fallon performed a duet of "I've Got a Crush on You," with Fallon donning a Joy-Philbin wig for his part.

Great recollections, Victoria! Retired from his show does not mean GONE! He's an institution!
Nice memories!
Love "Reeg." My favorite moments were his appearances on the David Letterman show. Dave loves to make fun of Regis, and Regis always plays along.
