Reiki for Children - Treating Children with Reiki Energy
Children are very receptive to the effects of Reiki and usually welcome it without apprehension, especially when they are given treatments from family members. The treatments are given to children in the same way they are given to adults. The only difference is that the Reiki treatments will not last as long in children.
The energy of Reiki travels much more quickly through the bodies of children. Adults often have blockages or accumulated toxins that tend to slow the treatment process but children have not yet built up these blockages. If the child becomes restless during a treatment, it should be stopped. This is an indication that they have had enough. Often times, children will begin to instinctively move away from the Reiki practitioner when they have had enough of the treatment
Reiki for Children - Attuning Children
Even small children can be attuned to Reiki but they are not yet mature enough to practice it. Children who are under the age of five years do not have the comprehension to understand Reiki. However, most children between the ages of five and twelve are able to learn Reiki and they can be attuned to the first level.
As adults usually require four attunements, children may only need one or two attunements for success. But, since their attention spans are so much shorter, children are not able to sit through even half a day of Reiki instruction. Children should be attuned and given only the most basic of instruction.
After the attunement, it is the responsibility of the parent(s) or care giver(s) to guide the child in the practice of Reiki. Because of this, only children with a parent or other adult in the home who is experienced in Reiki should become attuned. This is to ensure that they have proper guidance and assistance.
If you wish to have your child attuned to Reiki, arrange a time for the child and instructor to meet sometime before attunement. It is best if this meeting is held in the same place that the class will be held. You'll want to make sure that the child seems comfortable and not fearful or apprehensive. If the child appears to be resisting in any way, hold off on the attunement. It is very important that children be ready for Reiki and that it is not forced upon them.
If you have children who are attuned to Reiki, you should make sure and educate them. Let them know not to force their Reiki hands upon other children who may not understand what they are trying to do. Keep them focused on practicing Reiki at home instead.
