One of the largest gardens in Iowa, Reiman Gardens features a year-round Conservatory filled with tropical plants, waterfalls and interesting seasonal plant displays that are changed throughout the year. Vibrant greens and rich magentas, purples and pinks often scatter the conservatory to provide a pleasant escape.
The Dunlap Courtyard Garden is located outdoors and provides stunning views of the gardens. In the spring, visitors are delighted with rows of tulips. In the summer and fall, rows of colorful perennials delight the senses. The area also features Catalpa trees with benches for guests to take a rest while enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
Another favorite feature of the Reiman Gardens is Lake Helen. Lake Helen offers a beautiful display of aquatic plants and is stocked with koi fish. Depending on the season, visitors may be lucky to view the stunning Victoria waterlilies and Eurayales.
Reiman Gardens even has a garden dedicated to children. The Patty Jischke Children's Garden strives to encourage children to become interested in plants and nature at a young age. This educational area of Reiman Gardens features a stock tank, covered bridge, scarecrow garden, corn crib and stream garden. Some of the favorite kid features are the "spitting frogs" that shoot water across the stock tank.
The rose garden at the Iowa State University's Reiman Gardens includes an amazing display of over 2,000 plants and 250 varieties of roses. The rose garden has earned national recognition due to the variety and stunning display featured at the garden. The rose garden also has a trail and display garden which serves as part of the research conducted by Iowa State University students.
More than Plants - Explore the Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing
A tropical area within the gardens is full of life as visitors can watch butterflies from six continents flutter across the sky. From the Orange Tiger, native to Central and South America to the White Morpho, native to Central America visitors of all ages will delight in discover new butterflies at this educational display. The Reiman Garden web site features butterfly identification cards that can be downloaded an brought along to the exhibit to help visitors identify the butterflies.

The Reiman Gardens are located in Ames, Iowa just off of Highway 30 on University Boulevard and adjacent to Jack Trice Stadium. The gardens are open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children ages 4-17. Children age three and under are free.
