Relationship Advice: How to Repair Damage to a Relationship that You Caused

Eisla Sebastian
Relationships are not easy to manage. People in relationships evolve as individuals and as a couple and along the way they are bound to make mistakes that hurts the relationship. If you have done something that has damaged your relationship and you want to fix the damage then you need to take action quickly. Here are a few tips that can help you to repair damage you caused to your relationship by lying, cheating or being obnoxious.

Tip #1 - Correct Your Behavior

The first thing that you need to do when you damage your relationship is to correct your own behavior. This means that if you are cheating that you stop, if you are lying that you start telling the truth and that if you are being intrusive that you back off. Correcting your behavior is important because it reduces the long-term impacts of the damage that has already been done.

Tip #2 - Confront Your Significant Other

The next step is to confess your mistakes. Confessions of your mistakes are not just for the other person's benefit, they are for you as well. Your confession needs to be heartfelt and it needs to be honest. However, be prepared for the possibility that your mate will not take your news well and they may break up with you.

Tip #3 - Don't Bargain for Love

Bargaining for love is not a good idea. When you bargain for love and forgiveness you are asking your partner to give you something in exchange for you being a better partner. This is a selfish action that will put your partner on guard. Instead of bargaining for love and forgiveness just state that you want the relationship to work and that you are going to do X, Y and Z. This shows what "you" are willing to give to the relationship in order to make it work. This phrasing will give your partner the opportunity to respond in any way that they want.

Tip #4 - Make an Effort To Be a Good Partner

Next you want to make an effort to be a good partner. This may mean going out of your way to do little things for your partner like making them a cup of coffee for the ride into work, it may mean telling them that you love them each day and it may mean that you do the dishes without being asked.
