I now feel at 30 years old that I know myself a little better than anyone else would. I know how good of a friend I am, and how good it is to keep many friends who know each other. Without this your new boyfriend or girlfriend can't remain who they are when you are dating, and neither can you. I agree with many professionals that the rules to having someone pertain to more than just that person.
So, here's my rule: Before dating or making advancement to start to start dating or accepting one, make sure you and this person are familiar with each other and each others friends. Girls can learn a lot from the guy friendships their boyfriend has. How responsible are they? This is one key question to focus on. While family is a major role in healthy adult lives, it is not always possible. Some adults have mixed-up adolescents and crossed dysfunctional family. Most of my friend's live half way across the country forms their family, just for reasons like this one. So, if you can't meet a guy's mom first, it's okay. He won't be meeting mine either.
Relating to the way that persons socialize should tell you if he's sociopath or not. Many guys I tried to date didn't have lasting friend skills and ended up alcoholics. Bar hoppers who can't slow down to talk about politics on CNN aren't the friendliest anyhow. So, that's a key trigger, even if they had friends, the likely bar fly is stuck to being crazy with binging with possible blackouts. I have been forgotten, and left out of the common party guy's routine in the past. Noticing if this is the kind of guy who will be a family man is my area of lost instinct. Being a single mom, I would love to go on a date with a guy who wants to throw the ball around will my son. Getting out and enjoying a community event is really my favorite thing. I have yet to meet this wonder guy who can be normal and charismatic.
The point I am making in my effort to establish rules is the prevention of disastrous involvement. Much like the one I engaged in this last year. I will let this guy on as a no-name here, but we had our flaws. He never had healthy friendships; he wasn't a bar fly; but he was just too alone. This showed some negative traits way to early on. Needless to say, I am still alone and searching for the right way to build the right relationship.
