From the simplest of flower beds to having a well maintained vehicle, you have to put the time into it in order to get the most out of it in order for it to last. If we don't look after our homes, they crumble and fall to the ground. If we don't tend to our relationships, those we love may slip through our fingers.
No matter what surrounds us, whether it be nature, things or people, if we don't tend them with care, dignity, love and consideration, we will lose them.
Nurturing and Attention
From the first day we spend on this earth, to the very last, we need nurturing and attention. If a small baby were left unnurtured, it would not thrive. It might even lose its will to live. If a child does not feel loved and cared for, it will grow to experience such emptiness that is sure to affect its growth and development.
Even as adults, if we don't have that nurturing in our lives, we feel as though so much is missing and we will forever be searching to find something that fills the void within us. If a flower is left unattended, it will droop and cease to be. Thus is the way with any kind of relationship. The less time and energy that is put into it, it will begin to whither and die.
Marital Relationships
In marital relationships, it's so often noticed that once you have the person you desire to be with the most, we can become lax in tending that relationship. We go our separate ways, do our own thing, become so involved with obtaining the "other" things in life that we desire, that we often become complacent and negligent to the needs of the person we love. We very often forget to set aside some time for our partner, often neglecting their presence. Unfortunately, we can often take our marriages for granted, thinking that once married, this person isn't going anywhere.
Relationship With God
This can also be said for our relationship with God or our higher power. We seem to call upon God when something is going wrong in our lives, expecting favors and miracles to bring us "happiness", but do we give Him much thought when all is well, or at least coasting in a positive direction? Would it be any wonder if God refused to answer any of our prayers and supplications, considering the way we often treat Him? One would lose a lot of friends if they treated THEM that way, only calling upon them when a favor is required.
We need to nurture and tend our relationship with God on a daily basis as well.
A Relationship Is A Blessing
Never take anyone for granted, whether it be a friend, a lover or partner, a family member or God, because there may come a day when you will find yourself without them, either by death or that they never felt a part of your life and therefore drifted away. Nurture all relationships to the best of your ability. Make those you love and care about feel important and wanted in your life. You can only feel that much more blessed by doing so ..........and who wouldn't want such benefits and blessings around them continuously?
Tend To Your Gardens
When you take the time to attend and nurture a garden, you are blessed with the bounty and beauty of the flowers for the season. When you tend to your home, it will last for years to come and give you comfort, security and safety. So is it when you tend to family members and friendships. You will be blessed with immeasurable joy by their presence.
When you give attention and care to your life partner, you heart will never be broken. When you give care and time to friends, you will never be alone. When you give God your time and attention, you will never be in despair.

Post a CommentThis was a great article and topic. My fiance and I met later in life - when we were both around 40. We are glad that it happened that way because it makes us appreciate each other more.
You make a lot of valid points here!
