Relax at the Boat Dock on the Lake

4 Things to Take Down to the Boat Dock

Lucky M Diaz
There's nothing more relaxing than spending a day down at the boat dock on the lake. Whether you're swimming, fishing, spending time with friends and family, or just watching the sun glisten on the water as the boats speed by, a wonderful day on the boat dock can be accomplished when you bring everything that you need. I have enjoyed many days out on a boat dock, soaking in the sights, sounds, smells and sun, and can tell anyone who is ready to do the same that these are four things that are needed for a wonderful day on the lake.

Sunscreen Lotion/ Sun Block
Plan to spend plenty of time in the sun. To protect yourself from getting a sun burn and eventually skin cancer, it is important to bring sunscreen lotion down to the dock. Apply before you go and plan to reapply several times while at the lake, especially if you are swimming, sweating and getting wet. Sunburns are painful, harmful to your health, and can definitely make a day at the boat dock not as enjoyable as it should be. It is also a good idea to bring an umbrella if there isn't any available shade because it gets really hot very fast when you're out on the dock by the water.

Ice Chest/ Cooler with Beverages and Food
Who doesn't enjoy drinking an ice cold, refreshing beverage while relaxing at the lake? The ice chest is an important thing to bring to the boat dock because it is where you are going to store and keep fresh all of your food and beverages. It is easy to become dehydrated without even realizing it when you are having fun at the dock. The cooler should have plenty of ice, water, beverages and food to keep you nourished through out the day. It is a good idea to take food items that are simple and don't take up a lot of space. Sandwiches and fruit are ideal for feeding your appetite, nourishing your body, and not taking up too much space in the cooler.

Towels
These are things that are easy to forget when planning a day at the boat dock, probably because they are the most obvious. Sometimes we get so caught up in bringing the ice chest and all of the other things that go in the cooler that we forget the most obvious things that we need: towels. Towels are great to sit on, lie down on, and obviously, dry off with.

Sandals/ Flip-flops
The appropriate footwear is important when down at the dock. Boots and tennis shoes can make your feet hot while in the sun; high heels and stilettos can make you uncomfortable or increase your chances of falling while on slick or uneven surfaces. Besides, it's much easier to kick off the sandals or flip-flops and jump into the lake than to remove any other type of footwear.

Put on your sunscreen lotion, kick off your sandals, lay back on your towel, open up an icy beverage and enjoy your wonderful day because if you've followed the directions in this article and brought these four things down to the dock, you will be relaxing at the boat dock on the lake with everything you need.

Great list, I don't venture out on the water all that often but I'm sure this will be helpful for those that do.
