Relevant Content or a McChicken?
To Publish or Not to Publish? to Pay or Not to Pay? Relevant or Ridiculous?
I recently tried to publish some content on AC with monetary consideration and was told that it was memoir content and not suitable for payment. I can understand how some things may not be relevant for a reader; however I see a flip side. The flip side being it is a payment of three to twenty dollars. People pay thousands to have memoirs published of famous faces, so why not publish on associated content? They say that the information in articles must be able to help or provide the reader with relevant information. Then let me ask you this, would you jump out of an airplane without first asking someone "How was it for you?"? I am pretty sure that most of us have spoken to a friend or maybe even a stranger about a choice we were thinking of making. Why do we do that? Well we do that because the opinions of others help us to make choices. Whether we would care to admit it or not. There is not one person in this world that has ever made some large decisions without first consulting friends or people with knowledge in that area. My knowledge happens to be in self-worth, faith, salvation, Christianity, religion, and issues such as pre-marital sex and parenting. However the personal stories and trials of what I have gone through, based on the managers here at AC have been deemed un-useful to you the reader. They are useful enough to publish without payment, yet not useful enough for a $3.00 payment.
I challenge you to think to yourself, what are you life experiences worth to someone else? What do you have to offer a society of corruption? Do you have a movie reviews that will change someone's heart? Do you have a book reviews that could open the eyes of someone's heart? I seriously doubt it, but your personal trials and tribulations could save a life or just lighten someone's heart. I guess when you look at it that way the true payment for moments like those would be priceless, so maybe non payment is sufficient. I myself believe that any content written from ones heart for the content of spirituality, health and wellness, women's issues, parenting, or whatever the case maybe is due some recognition. Take a moment and imagine if you were to tell someone your story of over-coming depression solely based on a personal occurrences that happened to you, or imagine cheating the thoughts of suicide because of finding the love of Christ, now tell me...if you could share your story, Do you believe it would be relevant to another persons life? Do you believe that what you learned or what you have observed could save someone else? Now is that "content" of you heart worth anything? Sure it is worth everything to whom ever reads it and realizes "Hey I am not alone, and this could help, let me try it".
I may not be Marilyn Monroe or Celine Dion, but my life has stories too. I have everyday "real" life experiences that may be memoirs, however they to may be the key that someone is looking for. I am not saying that associated content should pay for memoirs, what I am saying is, at least make it known that personal memoirs ARE relevant to society and others. Let it be known that we learn more from reading others true stories than we learn from learning to clip coupons from the Sunday paper, or how to find the best deal on a Halloween costume. Maybe associated content needs to realize that we are searching for something and not just searching for the latest movie reviews, or how to earn a quick buck, but we are looking for answers to depression, rowdy kids, prayer in schools, and how to deal with being told that our personal stories are not relevant to society. Not only are our personal stories not relevant..they are not even worth 3 items from the dollar menu at McDonalds. Well the next time you find happiness in strange places, maybe you should rethink publishing a story about it...grab a mcchicken, fries, and a coke.

AC does not pay for memoirs beucase memoirs do not play the bills. Are memoirs helpful? YES. Do advertisers line up place ads next to memoirs? NO one. It is a business after all.
