Reliance Direct to Home Network

There was a lot of debate on which was the best DTH service to subscribe to and all seemed to be one worse than the other. Finally we decided to go in for Reliance, supposedly India's best DTH service only based on the fact that they were acknowledging that the system was flawed and that there were working on the rectification. No other service was even acknowledging that there was a problem.

With Reliance we got a set top box really cheap - the cheapest in the market. Along with that we got 3 months of free subscription to 199 channels. 180 of which we could not understand. So we had to settle for the 19 channels we would have gotten free if we had opted for the simple DTH services through the local State Television 'DoorDarshan'.

When I approached Reliance Customer care to change the plan I was told that I had to keep the plan as there was a lock in period of 3 months. Though I could 'buy' additional channels for a month each. This was costing me a packet and was soon dropped. However, the existing channels were so boring that I had not choice other than to go in for the cheapest package - they got me there!

Now when I activated my 'English Jumbo Pack along with the Took Kidz pack' I was surprised to find that they activated the 'kidz' pack along with the English Jumbo pack'. This was a mistake I was not prepared to accept because both the packs had the kidz channel and two channels I wanted were excluded from the pack.

I called them and was promptly told that there was a mistake and nothing could be done because there was a lock in period of one month.

Now if anyone tries to get through to customer service they would know that it is nearly impossible. The toll free almost never works this leads to you wasting precious phone time on your calls which will almost never result in any good.

But then what can be done? Reliance is not as reliable at the top bosses would like to make out it is.
