Relief from a Nervous Stomach

Alicia Bodine
Anyone can suffer an episode of nervous stomach. This can be brought on when an individual becomes apprehensive about something. Some possible causes could be giving an oral book report in front of the entire class, or having to go to court for any reason. Once your stomach feels nervous you will want to get some relief. If you don't, it could escalate to nausea and even diarrhea.

Peppermint

Suck on a peppermint. Stash some of these in a pocket if you think that something you are about to do is going to cause you to have a nervous stomach. If you are at home, you can make some peppermint tea. It is the menthol in the peppermint that works to sooth the muscles in your stomach. When you smell the peppermint you can receive an added bonus. The smell can help calm your nerves which is causing the nervous stomach in the first place.

Ginger

Ginger is an excellent all-natural way to relieve your nervous stomach. You can also use it to prevent nausea and motion sickness. You can take ginger in a pill form with a glass of water. In that case you will have to wait about twenty minutes to begin feeling some relief. If you are looking for a more quick fix, you can purchase a can of Gingerale and drink that. You may want to drink it slowly at first and then increase as you begin feeling better.

Valerian Root

Valerian root is an herb that you can purchase at health stores. There is a liquid form for children and a pill form for adults. The valerian root is mainly used to treat anxiety. Since anxiety is the cause of the nervous stomach, the valerian root's calming effect does an excellent job at relieving it.

It may also help to realize that everyone gets nervous. You may feel like you are going to mess up, but even if you do chances are most people won't even remember it. Just stay positive and look at the activity as something fun and adventurous. Then you will be able to look back and realize it wasn't that big of a deal. You may even say, "I don't know what I was so nervous about".
