These over the counter products like Visine only compress the blood vessels in the eye, it doesn't do anything to relieve your eyes from dryness. And having dry eyes over a long period of time can be damaging to the eyes, so you definitely want to use treatments that provide permanent or long-term relief to your dry eye problem. Luckily, there are a number of natural remedies that help to relieve your dry eyes.
The first are eye drops but the natural kind. These natural eye drops replace the missing tears in your eyes with artificial ones. Be sure to choose an eye drop that has no preservatives. A couple of recommended ones are Viva-Drops or Similasan. Viva-Drops help improve the tissue in the eyes that keep tears in the eyes longer, and Similasan helps to moisten the eyes to keep the production of tears at a normal pace. You can use these drops as often as you need them since they are natural with no preservatives.
Another natural way to naturally relieve dry eyes is to take 1,500 mgs a day of Evening primrose oil. Evening primrose oil contains fatty acids that can help increase tears. You can also get your fatty acid intake to increase tear production from vitamin C and B6. Take 1,500 mgs of vitamin C that contains GLA and 500 mgs of vitamin B6 a day. For those suffering from dry eyes and those who wear contacts that can dry the eyes, be sure you are getting enough potassium. Potassium is essential in reducing dry eyes. Many people who suffer from dry eyes have low potassium. To solve this problem, simple eat a banana a day.
The Chinese herb called Lycii-Rehmannia can help relieve dry eyes. This herb is part of the Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment that focuses on and treats the parts of the body that are either too hot or too dry. This treatment is called Yin Deficiency. Many people who suffer from dry eyes have oil glands that are somehow blocked and prevented from producing tears or that causes tears to dry up too fast. To solve this problem, soak your eyelids twice a day. How do you soak your eyelids? Simply wet a cloth in warm water, rinse out, and put it over your eyes for a few minutes. Close your eyes and rub your lashes and eyelids in a circular motion with the cloth. Do this a couple of times a day, twice a day.
