Most people believe that heartburn is caused by too much acid in the stomach. However, if you don't have enough acid this can also cause heartburn. To help prevent heartburn, try taking hydrochloric acid supplements before each meal following the directions. If your stomach doesn't have enough acid, this will provide instant relief. If you experience a mild burning sensation, then you probably are not low on acid try mixing a ΒΌ teaspoon of baking soda with a cup of water to clear up the sensation. Eating a form of the herb licorice, called DGL, works like a natural antacid and helps protect the lining of the esophagus, not to mention it relieves and prevents heartburn. DGL is a chewable form of the herb licorice and can also help to prevent or heal ulcers. Take one or two chewable capsules three times a day on an empty stomach.
Aloe gel works great to prevent heartburn and any other type of stomach indigestion. Like the DGL licorice herb, aloe helps to protect the lining of the esophagus. Drink a cup of the aloe gel before you eat. In fact, you can drink eight ounces of Aloe Vera gel throughout the day to prevent heartburn. Taking a capsule of slippery elm before each meal helps to relieve the symptoms of heartburn and stomach problems because it heals the mucus membranes. Taking one to three capsules of MSM twice a day with meals helps to strengthen the esophagus and protects your stomach acid. Finally, the best thing you can do to relieve and prevent heartburn is to not sleep on your back, your left side or lay down shortly after you have eaten.
