Religion :Everyone Should Have a Choice

Why Can't Everyone Have Their Own ?

Heather Shockney
Religion should be a choice everyone has to make. There should not be any judgment from others when you tell them what religion you believe in.We should be free to decide what we want to believe in,but this is not usually the case. Every religion seems to think they are the only right choice. Who is to say which religion is the right one? Are the Catholics right? How about the Jews,or the Jehovah's Witnesses? Where in the bible does it say which religion is the right one?

I was contacted by a gentleman through Instant messaging awhile ago and we started chatting back and forth. It wasn't too long after chatting that he asked me what religion I believed in.I told him my views and went on to explain that I think everyone is entitled to their own beliefs.I would not judge someone based on their religion. He then started asking me questions about religion.Questions about different beliefs I had.I knew as soon as he asked me the questions I had heard them before. He was a Jehovah's Witness.

We would chat every morning ,sometimes for a few hours at a time. He would send me religious questions and wanted to know how I felt about them.I would type my answer and it would be met with more questions. Then I was asked by the gentleman if I had ever visited a Jehovah's Witness church. I replied that I had not.I explained that I didn't share the same views as the Jehovah witnesses.I also explained again that everyone is free to have their own religion and beliefs.Thats the great thing about this country. He then asked what I didn't believe in and i told him my thoughts on his religion as politely as I could. Then he would ask me questions to try and prove he was right.I kept asking him for proof of his preachings but he never would give me a straight answer. It was always just more questions.

He never could understand that I was not going to attack his beliefs, but I also wasn't going to be converted into his way of thinking either. These chats went on for about a month, and then once he discovered he could not change my religious beliefs he quit contacting me. I still don't know why people cannot except that others are entitled to their own religion. The gentleman insisted that all other religions would not be entering Heaven and left to suffer. All I wanted to know was where in the Bible did it say that.I never got any answer.Does it say somewhere in the Bible which religion is the correct one to follow? Does it state that all others will be looked down upon?

Why is it so hard to believe that their could be several religions allowed to enter Heaven? We all live on earth together why could we not share our after life together as well? The next time you are discussing religion with someone ,think again before telling them they are wrong .Who are we to judge someone on their beliefs? What do you think, should you try to convince someone their religion is wrong?

Great stuff. It also makes me wonder what Christians would do ( aside from slamming doors in faces) if Pagans went door to door?

I totally agree. Forcing your religion on someone else is not the way to accomplish anything.

Good article. I agree with you, and I think Pam Gaulin states it perfectly below: "The only 'right' religion is the one that works for you".

Actually it does say in the Hebrew/Christian Bible that there is one God. Jesus spoke about being wary of religious leaders, because not all that prophesized in "His" name were from that God. There is much spoken about "pagans" and "heathens". Those are people whose religions did not acknowledge the God of Judasim, Christianity and Islam. I do, however, feel that people are free to choose to worship "God as they know him" (or her). With one Christ, there should be only one Christian religion. There are so many different forms, due to mankinds translations and misinterputations of the Bible. I do not know enough about lesser known religions, such as Buddahism to say what their holy books have to say about "only one god", thus only one religion.

I agree with you! I choose not to follow any religion and I think that should be respected as well.

The only "right" religion is the one that works for you. Good article.

I agree a person should have the power to choose. I don't like people who try to convert others or preach when others do not ask.

Good article. This is why I choose not to talk about my beliefs with the casual aquaintance!
