Religion in the Workplace
I myself plan to become a teacher in the near future. The constitution does have a separation of church and state. However, I do plan on telling my students that I'm a Christian but I'm not going to impose or force my Christianity on any of them. Right now I'm a substitute teachers and I often see a few religious artifacts or paraphernalia in classrooms.
The workplace is a place where you spend around 40 hours a week, which is a lot of time. We spend 120 hours a month on average in the workplace on average, which adds up to around 1,500 hours a year. If you ask me, this is way too much time to go without any religion at all. Many workplaces are second homes to people, so why shouldn't some religion be welcome in them?
Religion is a topic that many of us love to talk about, so why shouldn't be allowed to talk about it at work as long as we're getting our job done? Religion is a subject that's here to stay, and one that people are interested in. This makes it merely impossible to ban religion in the workplace. Religion is a thing that lots of people have in common, and may even be a way to unite coworkers and give them something to bond with.
Is it ok to be ashamed of your religion or feel that you have to tuck it away while you're at work. No it isn't. We should be free to be ourselves no matter where we are or who we're around. You should never be afraid to stand up for your personal beliefs and values. Religion is far more important than money, so religion should never be put on the back burner for monetary reasons. Speak proudly about your religion at work since religious discrimination is against the law.
