Religious Sonnet

RELIGIOUS SONNET II

O, I can preach as good as the next one
I am ready to take the Word afield
But what happens when the One should beckon
To preach at home, to neighbors, foe and fiend?
As much as one can boast faithful clinging
It is our own terms that stay dominant
When there is a sense of the One speaking
little truths oppose the Omnipresent

Just as we tell children about Jonah
How he prayed inside a fish belly
Dark, damp, smelly and fish food, bitten raw,
The Word says God heard; out he came, hearty!
Truth be told, Jonah tried to run from God -
work in Nineveh when called by his Lord

  • Christ needs us to do our duty, to live out our faith much more, than to preach (teach others).
  • Christ-cenetered change begins with me, in me...preaching is easier in comparison; think of teachers
  • who are great at lecturing, but fail to actually make successful learners of their charges.
meditative sonnet--could help one contemplate deeply and for hours!
