REM: A Poem

Scott Bauer
Asleep with bright eyes

Body dead

But mind awake

How can this be?

Versus the grain

As an unbrushed feather

But nightly...

It returns.

A mystic blessing

Present unknown

Resolving conflicts

Without thought

Fitful in the dark

Forgotten by the dawn

Circumcised by consciousness

If remembered

Dreams are a gift in disguise
