Remain

Melissa R. Mendelson
Love lingers across the cold winds
that still find me standing here,
and I no longer dream of him,
the one to break this glass
and rescue my heart.
But no more am I held
in the cruel hands
of the one
that refused to let go,
but still I remain waiting,
alone.
And I rest against the door
to my life,
afraid to walk outside
for I have been torn apart
for far too long,
and no more could I bear the
hurt
that has ran these tears dry.
And I still remain here,
locked behind the window
to this world,
and watching love walk by,
and I dream in red,
drifting across the arms
that would hold me.
But I slip through,
falling softly,
and my eyes open
to the walls that hold me.
And I still wait,
and my heart still cries
for love.
And I remain.
