Remainder of Van Halen Tour Canceled or Not?
Conflicting Reports Surfacing Regarding Remainder of Van Halen's Tour
Van Halen was a band I used to idolize in my middle school and even high school years. I never got to see Van Halen with David Lee Roth as the lead singer though. I was hoping to go to the Monsters Of Rock concert back when I was in high school, but could not afford the tickets back in the 80's. I did get to see Van Halen many years later though. Of course this was the incarnation of Van Halen that many fans referred to as Van Hagar. That was because this concert was five years ago in Washington, DC with Sammy Hagar as the lead singer.
The concert was a blast. David Lee Roth might get all the kudos for being a great showman, but at the concert that I attended Sammy Hagar was also very good at getting the audience involved. He spent close to an hour and a half on stage running around their custom designed stage and singing some of the biggest hits of what once again is known as the "Van Hagar" era. These songs included some of the hits such as "When Love Walks In", "Poundcake", and other hits off their album that was most successful during the "Van Hagar ". Sammy was also known as the "Red Rocker" and he did several songs from the more popular song list of Van Halen from the David Lee Roth years. Some of these songs included "Jump", "Hot For Teacher", and "Panama".
The energy Sammy Hagar brought to those songs was incredible. Even though some of them were indeed songs he had no role in writing, he acted as if he owned those songs. All of the members of Van Halen had an opportunity to do a solo during the show during that tour. This included Michael Anthony who is the only original member of Van Halen that is not on this reunion tour as Eddie Van Halen's song Wolfgang Van Halen has replaced him on the tour. The concert I saw was the first time I had ever seen Wolfgang Van Halen play. This concert was back when Eddie has just gotten out of rehab, again, and he brought his son along with him on the tour. Who would have known that tour wasn't just a guest appearance but maybe the next generation of keeping Van Halen alive.
The question remains though, will this tour remain alive?

Post a Commentwhat a clown you are..you`e the one that needs to just go off and die you worthless piece of feces. What you ever contributed to the world ?? nothing . just like your entire worthless existance. bet you think your really cool sitting behind your computer.your loser.
I have seen Van Halen multiple times with DLR and with Sammy. I saw Van Halen twice on the Diver Down tour and three times on the 1984 tour. I have also seen Sammy solo twice in the early 80s before his VH days. I never thought there was much of a comparison. Sammy was always a better showman. DLR is kind of like a Las Vegas lounge act - the same jokes, the same lines, delivered with the same inflection. Nothing ever changed with him. Sammy was always about raw energy.
People that do not like the music of the "Van Hagar" days need to remember that Eddie was still the primary writer throughout the history of Van Halen. As far as that goes, the most "pop" album they ever had was 1984. Can you get more "Top 40" than Jump or Love Waits?
Anyway, all these years I had DLR pegged as the bad guy. The guy that kept causing all of the trouble within the band. As we have all discovered, Eddie is just as guilty. I will always love VH music. It is a large part of the soundtrac
What a stupid article.
Sammy and Van HAGAR sucks ASS!!
Eddie IS the problem. Look at pictures of him just out of rehab last year. Sober, healthy, hell, practically glowing. Look at him now, ripped, yes, but 40 lbs thinner. The man is drinking. He is botching solos left and right. What, because Dave is wearing a top hat??! Eddie needs to:
1. Sober up. Really, this time. Sober up.
2. Eat some food.
3. Wear some clothes.
4. Sign an endoresement deal with Kramer, or a company who can give the guitar he needs, which obviously is not Fender, or Peavey.
5. Go wireless again. Plugging into an amp is just not cool.
6. If he must play Eruption, actually play it, note for note, as on Van Halen I.
7. Learn some new riffs, incorporate them into a solo.
I think I'll stop there. Dave is playing the game, doing his professional best. To blame him for the mess Eddie makes is a joke.

Nice to see Eddie being the problem again.
I don't see any mystery here. Eddie Van Halen is one of the classic rock prima donnas. He envisions himself as inheritor of the revolutionary guitarist mantle handed down from Clapton to Page to him. But can you imagine Jimmy Page or Pete Townsend or any of the other greats putting up with this level of talent from their frontman? It's bad enough to expect him to play the same stock guitar solo from Jump at the end of all eighty-four stops but to do so behind an out-of-tune, washed up "showmen" may simply be too much. Mix in the requisite three ring circus of rock-n'-roll idiocy (I counted a flag-waiving, a giant phallic microphone and a mic-stand twirl in that five minute clip alone), and it's something else:
Embarrassing.
Is Eddie quitting? Maybe.
But I suspect it has nothing to do with his ex-wife.
Eddie Isn't The Problem
