Learn These Home Remedies for Car Sick Dogs

When I decided to bring home my new puppy, I was so happy because I would have a companion to take with me on road trips. I was looking forward to taking my new puppy to the lake, on hiking trails, and just a fun buddy to have in the car. On the way home from picking up my puppy, I was lost in my thoughts when a putrid smell hit my nose. I glanced over into the back seat and saw I had a car sick dog. Oh no! This completely changed my plans. Road trips are no fun with a car sick dog. Once I got home and cleaned up the mess, I began looking on-line for home remedies for car sick dogs.

One site I found had great tips. This site advised to cure car sickness to take the dog every day in the car for a short trip. Gradually increase the length of the trip each day to get the dog accustom to riding in the car.I tried this, and although it took a while, it did eventually work.

I had also read, that before you decide to take your dog in the car, make sure they have not eaten or drank anything within an hour of leaving. This decreases the chance of a dog becoming nauseas. Also, the emptier their stomachs are, the less contents they will have to spill in the car.

I also learned it is important when trying to overcome a car sick dog, to teach them to sit still in the car. The more a dog bounces around in a car, the more likely they are to get sick. Teach a dog while it is young to remain seated in a car. It is also safer for the dog and the driver if the dog is well behaved in a car.

In rare and extreme cases of car sickness in dogs, I learned sedatives or tranquilizers can be used. I did not choose to go this route but I did look up natural sedative. Chamomile can be used to help naturally calm a dog and relax it during a car ride.

These remedies for car sick dog were very helpful to me. I began using them immediately and quickly discovered how successful they were to use. My dog no longer gets car sick. I can take my buddy with me on road trips without having to worry whether or not I was going to be cleaning up a huge mess in the back seat. Plus, by following these tips, my dog is very well behaved in the car and is much easier to take with me places. Overcoming this small obstacle has been well worth the work I had to put into it.

ginger snaps work wonders also. as soon as you get in the car, every time, give your dog a ginger snap cookie. they find it as a treat when they get in the car, and it sooths the belly.
