Remedies for Morning Sickness

There is a great number of women who sail through the beginning of pregnancy with little to no symptoms except for maybe a small amount of weight gain. While there are many who are fortunate to fall in this category there are others however who are plagued with symptoms including morning sickness. Although it is called morning sickness, it can actually occur any time of the day and can last all day. It can range from a slightly queasy feeling in ones' stomach to vomiting several times a day. There are some remedies women can try to help and relieve this unfortunate symptom of pregnancy. Here is look at some of them.

1. Altering your diet. Most people are accustomed to eating three large meals a day and perhaps a snack or two. If you find yourself battling morning sickness switching to eating six small meals a day can make a great difference. Look to foods that have a good amount of protein and that are not too greasy or fatty. Spicy foods should also be avoided. Sometimes women find they also have to omit caffeinated drinks as well such as soda's and coffees.

2. Seabands. Seabands are special wrist bands that can be found at most drug stores and many other places such as Target or Walmart. They have a small ball on them that presses on certain pressure points on your wrist that help to battle nausea. Having tried these with my current pregnancy I can vouch and say they worked wonders for me and greatly helped me get through the day. Another benefit to these is that they are inexpensive, usually around $10 a pair.

3. Ginger. Some women have tried ginger powder or even special ginger teas for their morning sickness and have found them to be effective. Ginger tablets can also be found in special health food stores and many doctors and midwives will recommend these to help with nausea. Women should always be careful to follow the correct dosage however, when taking anything like this. Even all natural remedies can have negative side effects if they are not taken correctly.

4. Preggie Pops. Preggie Pops or similar items are special lollipops that come in a number of flavors to help with morning sickness. These are a good relief for milder cases of morning sickness and the best thing about them is they are all natural. Preggie Pops can be purchased online or at stores such as Motherhood Maternity.

5. Medications. In some cases morning sickness can be so severe that at home remedies may not work. In this case one should talk to their doctor or midwife about alternative solutions. There are a few anti-nausea medications women are able to take that can be a great relief when it comes to morning sickness. There are some drawbacks to these though. Your doctor will need to give you a prescription and just like any medication they can have side effects such as drowsiness. Your doctor will be able to assist you in making the right decision not only for you, but for your unborn baby, as well.
