Remember That

A Poem for Memorial Day

Mike Spain
When you read the names off that wall

Remember that's not the reason they went to Vietnam

The person at the wall never asked for the tears that fall

Remember that when you think you don't give a damn

That soldier who never made it back home

When he went to Iraq , Pakistan or Afghanistan

His son, daughter or widowed still is home

Remember that when you think you don't give a damn

Those Coast Guard members who patrol are waters

Well the one's who died in the accident they never received a hand

Even though they pulled a civilian or two out of the water

Remember that when you think you don't give a damn

Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard

Fathers, Mothers, Brothers, Sisters, Neighbors, daughters and Sons

Did what they were told so we could live in disregard

Till we read their names in the obituary or church bulletins

Politics we can disagree thanks to those who came home in body bags

Remember that when you think you don't give a damn

What a beautiful tribute my friend. Well done. Please forgive my absence...I am at Seminary out of state with no computer access save some Computer Lab time that is short, until June 19th. God bless you friend. :-)
