Remember Me - a Review

Remember me is a romantic drama where Robert Pattison plays Tyler a rebellious young New Yorker with no real goals or direction in life. Tyler's brother Michael committed suicide and now that Tyler is a few months away from reaching the same age when his brother took his life, he feels a great connection with his lost sibling.

One of the gems of Remember me is the close relationship between Tyler and his sister Caroline. Ruby Jerins, gives an amazing performance when she portrays Tyler's younger sister and manages to create a very believable brother-sister relationship while her brother sits brooding on the window sill smoking. Despite her young age, Jerins brings a depth and maturity well beyond her years and her acting brings authenticity to the story.

Weaknesses

If Micheal's death has brought Tyler and Caroline closer, it has deeply strained their relationship with their emotionally distant father played by Pierce Brosnan . Brosnan gives maybe a too- impeccable performance of the cold hearted macho lawyer who clashes with young Tyler. There are several instances where this movie verges to the brink of melodrama but fortunately it is saved by the authentic interpretation of it's cast.

Tyler's gloomy attitude towards life changes when he meets Ally (Emilie de Ravin) , a college student whose father arrested Tyler a few days before. The cliché's in their relationship are obvious when we slowly discover about Ally's story as Tyler falls for her.

Strengths

Though the plot is quite predictable, the story is a good starting point for first time screenwriter Will Fetters . The director Allen Coulter does a good job in playing with the concept of living life to the full because you don't know what will happen in the future. In choosing Pattison for Tyler's role Summit Entertainment is trying to cash out on the success of the Twilight franchise, yet Pattison shows plenty of unlocked talent in this movie.

Verdict

If diehard Twilight fans will swarm to the theatre to catch a glimpse of their beloved Eduard Cullen they will be presently surprised by the Pattison's interpretation. Though the plot of this movie is relatively simple and predictable, the outstanding performance of most of the cast will make you care about the ordeals these people. The blend of troubled family relationship, well developed characters and young love will keep you entertained.
