Remember Mountain View's St. James Infirmary?

If you have moved to Mountain View in the last decade, you would have never known that, what is now the Hampton Suites Hotel located at 390 Moffett Blvd. used to be a local pub known as the St. James Infirmary. At one time this popular bar and grill had peanut shells scattered on the floor, a horse drawn hearse hanging from the ceiling, a dinosaur in the men's bathroom, hermit crab races, bleachers, and an iconic--thirty foot tall-statue of Wonder Woman located right in the middle of the dance floor.

The bar opened in 1967 and became a legend in its own right after it burned down in the late 1990's. This was probably the closest thing to "Cheers" that Mountain View had back then. It was during the era when Mountain View was home to the now-closed Naval base. Filled with sailors, locals, and bikers, the spirit of the Saint James Infirmary continues to live on as patrons reminisce about their memories at the St. James Infirmary on a dedicated St. James Infirmary Facebook page.
