Remember Our Troops During the Holidays

Christmas and Hanukkah Are Approaching and Our Troops Have Earned Our Appreciation

Clark Richards
Have you ever been in a combat zone during a holiday period? If you have, you know it can be a time of heartache and sadness as you think of loved ones at home. You wonder if you will return to celebrate the next holiday, birthday, anniversary or some other special event. You wonder if you will ever again hug those you love.

It can be a time of loneliness for America's sons and daughters, but it also can be a time of hopefulness and joy as they celebrate with those that are experiencing the same feelings. The military provides many events to soften the affects of being away from home during the holidays. After almost 40 years I recall the late Bob Hope bringing an uplifting message of support to the troops in Vietnam during the Christmas of 1967. The USO was always there to uplift our spirits and let us know that America cared.

Now our troops are engaged in a war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Will you do a little to help them? Can you find it in your heart to send a card, message or small token of appreciation? You can be assured you that it will be appreciated and it will be remembered forever. You can send a gift or simply donate a few dollars to support our troops.

Here are some links to web sites that will send a gift or message to one or more of our soldiers. The familiar refrain, "it is better to give than receive" does not apply in this case as the recipient will remember receiving a gift during the holidays forever after. As I sit by the Christmas tree with family, I will always remember not only Bob Hope, but the small gift I received from America almost 40 years ago.

The best gift would be to bring the troops in Iraq home for the holidays.

Great post. Will pass this along. It makes me consider the Christmas my cousin, the marine, will be spending in Iraq this year.

Thanks for sharing this valuable information. I will forward this along to all my friends. I think it is important that the troops know they are in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless them each and everyone.

To All: A heartfelt thanks to any that might chose to remember our soldiers during the holidays. If you can, please forward the links to any that you feel may be inclined to donate or perhaps you know of other reputable sites that will forward a gift or message to our troops.
