Remember (Where You Belong)

Written September 21, 2008

Heather B.
On the street tonight
I heard a call to my past
I've never been here before
But it feels like I have
Lime green street lights
and Spanish moss
Dark and cloudy sky
Blotted out by trees
Branches that I've never climbed
Beckoning to me
Don't you remember where you've been,
Everything you've seen
Come home, go home
But you don't know
Where you even belong

This place reminds me of a time
When I was newly alive
And knew the world was mine
And I remember everything
Lime green street lights
And Spanish moss
Darkened skies
Shadowed by trees
All the branches that I climbed
They're calling out to me
Don't you remember who you were,
Who you can still be
Come home, go home
Somewhere inside you know
Exactly where you belong

I lost myself along the way
The past will always slip away
I wish I'd held on to my heart
I close my eyes & I can still see
Lime green street lights
And Spanish moss
Blue and starry skies
Framed by pine trees
Branches that I want to climb
Beckoning to me
Forget where you are
Remember where you've been
Come home, go home
Your heart still knows
Just where you belong

Lovely, I know I feel similar about my home, but the Spanish moss makes it elsewhere :) Sheri

Beautiful poetry. I agree with Crystal. This could definitely be a song. :-)

Wonderful piece! I took it as perhaps a highly visual expression of deja vu. I have often visited places "for the first time" (physically) and found out I knew everything about them, as if I'd been there before.

A part of my heart resides in a place I can no longer visit.

This is beautiful and could be a song. It has a mystical/magical quality, as well as the reminder it gives. I really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing this!
